Definition of Agribusiness

Agribusiness is a collective term used to describe the various business activities that are involved in the production, processing, and distribution of agricultural products or services. In simpler terms, it refers to the various operations that are involved in the farming and distribution of agricultural produce.

Example

To illustrate agribusiness, let’s consider a small-scale farm that grows tomatoes. The farm has to invest in various inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and labor to produce the tomatoes. After harvest, the farm may sell the tomatoes to a local market, a grocery store, or a food processing company. If the farm decides to sell to a food processing company, the tomatoes may be turned into canned tomato sauce or even pizza sauce. The food processing company may then sell its resulting products to retailers or restaurants. In this example, the entire process, from farm to table, is agribusiness.
